I'm not really following this bug. is this quick search, or advanced search?
Summary: Sould be able to search on Custom fields → Should be able to search on Custom fields
Seth, this is ADVANCED search. See bugs 134435, 136309 and 214802 for similar issues. This bug is also in Linux version of Mozilla (see bug report 134435). Really, I'd like to see the ability to search on _every_ field in the address book: Zip code, Notes, Custom 1, 2, 3, 4, Web address, etc.

Perhaps should be closed as a duplicate of bug 298438?
(In reply to Matěj Cepl from comment #9) > Perhaps should be closed as a duplicate of bug 298438? Thanks Matěj for your much appreciated support in finding duplicates! :) You're right, current incomplete summary would allow duping against bug 298438. However, per comment 3 and all 3 of current duplicates, this has been declared to be about "Advanced Address Book Search" dialogue which you'll get from AB with Edit > Search Addresses or Ctrl+Shift+F. Let's keep AB Advanced Search and AB Quick Search separate. Wayne, this is the earliest and least specific bug I could find about this, ok to morph (as I did) to offer every field in the Advanced Search field dropdown dialogue? Expanding summary with relevant search words for better retrievability, avoiding dupes and ease of duping.

Sorry for the traffic, still adding more search words found on existing duplicates, which I'll add in a minute (and Bugzilla only allows adding them one at a time afasik).

looks good

I really wonder why they ever bothered to add fields like "Custom 1" etc. because there's no place in the entire UI from where you can search on these. Which makes this a bug, and probably a major one for that.

As the powers that be concerning Thunderbird have chosen to go down the web extensions route with the inevitable fallout of various addons no longer being updated.
Thunderbird developers et al, need to acknowledge their choice of direction necessitates they step up and start to enhance Thunderbird to cope with shortfall and do it with some haste.
One of those significant addon extensions was MoreFunctionsForAddressBook, which significantly improved and made the address book half decent.
Now, it is time to enhance the standard Address Book including all the options that MoreFunctionsForAddressBook used to provide.
Searches need to be on all aspects of the address book as people use the Address Book as a contact reference point which will include more data than names and addresses.
Please reset the priority and commence movement on this bug.
