User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:144.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/144.0

Steps to reproduce:

Drag Attachments to OS Folder/Desktop is not working. I drag the attachment to the desired position but nothing happens. Using the button "save" works. Tested on to different Computer (both MacOS 15.6.1).

Actual results:

nothing

Expected results:

the mail-attachement should be saved to the draged position

Same behavior as bug 1958549, same setting but TB 143.0 (aarch64) and MacOS 15.6.1 (24G90).

the issue was introduced in the build from 2025-08-14

That time it as due to bug 1802163. You need to check builds after 2025-08-21 when bug 1983136 landed.

As of today, this is still broken in 144.0.1.

The issue was once fixed in version 139 bug 1958549 but the bug was somehow reintroduced in version 143.

Using Thunderbird 144.0.1 on Mac Tahoe 26.0.1. Never worked for me with version 139. I've used all the troubleshooting methods I could find and nothing works. Can drag attachments from inline to desktop but not from the attachment bar. I've been having this problem for a month and it's maddening!

Nope, I see what happened now wrt the build on aug 14, looking again.

No longer regressed by: 1802163

OK, that's why this is kind of confusing: I don't think bug 1983136 fixed this in Thunderbird. I tried builds from Aug 21, 22, and 23, and it's still broken in all of those. So unless it was fixed and then broken again right away, I don't think the original breakage from Aug 14 (bug 1802163) was ever fixed in thunderbird.

Here's the bug report for the 'original' issue, that was fixed in version 139 : https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1958549.

The bug has seemingly been reintroduced in version 143, at least, that's what I observed after upgrading to that particular version on several macs running either macOS 12 (Monterey) and macOS 15 (Sequoia). Upgrading to 144.0.1 and the bug is still present.

This was specifically broken by this hunk of the regressing bug's diff. Removing that hunk restores the drag behavior, but that changed was placed there to work around another issue. I'll see if I can figure out a way we can fix this on the thunderbird side.
