Hey Lee. As part of the site redesign, we need a new careers page. We've discussed this offline, so you should have most of the details already.
I have a copywriter working on the text, and am hoping to have that by the end of the week. More to come!

Lee, here's a first pass at the copy:
https://docs.google.com/document/edit?id=16uAXHBgCYg76R2V8mezPJGmRvArPde4-PpoqKZ_vGVQ&hl=en&authkey=CL7l5ZwG
I think parts of it are probably too long, and our writer still needs to write headlines, subheadlines and section headers that fit our Georgia/Meta style, but if you want to start piecing this page together it's a starting point.
I'll share the correct headers, etc when I have them but would like to see how this text looks in the layout so we'll know what to cut. Thanks!

Lee, the copy has been updated a little bit (same link as comment #1). Let's start trying to flow it in and we'll see how it looks.
Hey John,
Here are 2 versions with the copy flowed in:
http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/JPG/careers_01a.jpg
http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/JPG/careers_01b.jpg
- pull down job list on right and left
- 3 info sections stacked vertically and horizontally

Thanks Lee. I'd really like to hear what Bret and/or Julie think before you do another round, but here are my quick thoughts:
- we're in the process of de-emphasizing the dino, so I'd like to take him off the signboard in the main illo. Can you tweak it to read "NOW HIRING!" or something like that?
- I *definitely* prefer the one with the job listings on the right sidebar.
- job listings look nice, but there should be something that indicates that each section can expand or contract...a +/- symbol, or something like that.
- main layout area isn't entirely working for me. The big photo looks nice, but you don't really get to the main content without a lot of scrolling. Can you break things up so some of the content appears higher on the page? Maybe have smaller photos interspersed throughout the page so it's not just photo slideshow and then three very similar-looking copy blocks? That whole area just doesn't feel very readable to me.
- solving the above issue will be easier once we have additional content direction from Bret (we had talked about adding a quick list of stats, or twitter feed, or other things like that that would help break up the monotony). Bret, any ideas there?
- Bret, Julie - what do you think about the copy? Feels a little long to me, but getting your specific input about what does and doesn't work would be great.

Bret, Julie - we need some direction from you on this. Please check out comment #4 and weigh in when you can.

Hey Bret. We really need your input on this if we're going upgrade the Careers page in the way we should. Can you check out comment #4 and weigh in? I'm happy to review with you in person if that's easier.
Thanks,
John

1. Just like John, I do prefer the pic on the left with the positions on the right, grouped by teams. I however thought that college recruiting would only be a link that would redirect the candidates to college.mozilla.com
2. I also agree that there is too much scrolling that needs to be done at that point.
3. May be nice to have a little overview of each team too, but I'm not sure how we'd manage all of this extra content.
Bret may have more insightful feedback to add at this point.
Hi all,
I'm just checking back in with everyone regarding feedback/directions/next steps with this page...
thanks,
Lee

Slater, can you share the web page content in text form? I'd like to make a few edits.
Will get working on a larger overhaul based on thoughts from Comment #4 as well.

I think we should meet today or tomorrow and sort this stuff out.
Comment 12•15 years ago

Right now:
1) the jobvite page is broken and has two javascript errors
2) we have testimonials from folks who don't work here anymore
3) we hide valuable content inside of content expanders (job listings are collapsed -- why?)
4) front page has tabs to preserve vertical space, but that requires a user to click on other things -- they can't scan the landing page and learn much. it's okay to have a long page.

Alright, let's do this.
1) Will contact Jobvite.
2) Yes, need some new copy.
3) Listings collapsed because the selection would be huge wo/it.
4) John's redesign eliminates the tabs.
Let's talk through this.

+1 for meeting this week. We can probably figure out a lot of this stuff by talking it through...not that complicated.
Mike, fyi, we had an earlier design prototype that addressed most of this but we didn't move forward on it b/c the content wasn't right.

Hey John, can you get me the page copy for edits? Your design mock was a JPG.

That's cool, so let's just pound out the content. We're young and smart.

This page needs a lot of edits, but here's the original doc. Also, here's the original design mockup, but this also needs a lot of work: http://www.intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/JPG/careers_01b.jpg

Next steps:
- Bret to research other career sites, provide recs as to best practices
- create wireframe of page (Chowse?)
- copy & design

Also, getting Rainer to do some videos as well; testimonials coming from employees would offer social proof.

Awesome!
Am assuming we'll need design & copy resources for this...let me know when you
think they'll be needed (can we get this into 2.1 or is it a 2.2 thing?) and
I'll file the bugs and link 'em up to the master tracker.
Comment 23•14 years ago

The focus mainly on UX right now. Not sure about 2.1 vs. 2.2 until we meet about it.

Comment 24•14 years ago
|

Sounds like maybe 2.2 then, but we can discuss at the meeting. Has that been scheduled yet?
Comment 25•14 years ago
|

Sure, 2.2 works.
