User-Agent:
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8
When I open Bookmarks -> Imported IE favorites, there are no bookmarks whose
names contain cyrillic letters. Neither there are any bookmark folders that are
named in cyrillic.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. In IE create a bookmark "Тест закладки"
2. Exit IE and start FireFox.
3. Go to bookmarks and check if it's imported.
Actual Results:
Bookmarks not seen.
Expected Results:
Should import all IE favs.
none.
My IE favorites had Devanagari characters (Languages (India):
Sanskrit/Hindi/Marathi)) in the urls and folders. FireFox 0.8 was not able to
import them also. From Windows 2000/XP, I can have UNICODE file names, which
means I can have filenames with any character in the world (UNICODE).

You shouldn't be seeing the Cyrllic bookmarks, ever, because Firefox only
imports Internet Explorer Favorites upon first run. However, if Bookmark Manager
-> File -> Import doesn't import it, then it'll be a bug.

you can't block a release that's already shipped.

This is either a bug in NSPR, or in our usage of NSPR.
The IE Favorites importer goes through the Favorites directory, reading
filenames using a DirectoryEnumerator, which in turn calls PR_ReadDir.
PR_ReadDir eventually calls the platform SDK function FindNextFile. For files
with non-ASCII (or, rather, I assume non-whatever-the-codepage-was-for-win95)
characters, this function seems to return a '?' character instead of the correct
character. Thus, we get a filename back out that looks like '???? ???-??
??????.lnk'. This gets returned to nsLocalFileWin's DirectoryEnumerator, which
double-checks to make sure that the file exists in the directory -- I have no
idea why it does this, but I assume to protect against cases like this. In any
case, a file named '???? ??......' doesn't exist, and so the entry gets skipped.
I've filed bug 262922 against nsLocalFileWin; once that's fixed, this should be
fixed as well.

we'd consider a patch that didn't scare us but we're not going to block the
release on this.

So that's what happened! Imported IE6 Favorites, Exported to IE6 Favorites, lost
several folders & individual entries in IE6. Import & Export *should* do a
merge, not a replace. Firefox 1.0 (2004110711), IE 6.0.2800.1106 SP1, Win98SE
4.10.2222A.

SOmeone in the replies below asked for an example...so here it is. If I go to
the website in Firefox 1.0.3 I can add this shortcut just fine. But when I try
to import it from IE, it does not work.
