I dumped Xubuntu because of this and innumerable other issues, and switched to Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon (Sara) where the sun is warm and shines bright. No problems there with the colors in Firefox (currently using beta 52.0b1) or previous versions. 

Although, there is a similar problem in Windows 7 Pro SP1, using the same FF 52.0b1 and earlier. The "selected text" background and foreground colors are not the same in Firefox as the setting in Personalize\Window color\Advanced appearance settings\Selected text. Should I open another bug report?? Please advise.
