User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130

When logged into Yahoo! email and composing an email, Mozilla does not display
the editing toolbar (font, justification, bold, italic, smilies, etc. buttons)
above the compose text box. IE renders these tools. Sorry about the newbie
submission - not sure if Yahoo! is running IE specific code or if this is a
Mozilla bug - and I'm not really technical enough to know which component might
be responsible (I did search for the "bug" and tried to figure out the component).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log in to Yahoo! email
2. Click "compose"
3. Verify that there are no toolbar buttons above the text box

Actual Results:
I can create an email but not perform any editing with the tools available in IE.

Expected Results:
Displayed the editing toolbar buttons and performed the editing functions they
represent (italics, bullets, font, smilies, etc.)

Bug occurs consistently (happens in Netscape 7 and 4.7 too). No crashes or
errors, just reduced functionality of the web page.

This is an evangelism bug. They only have an IE version of the javascript for this.
No obvious reason why they aren't cross-platform.
I wrote a reasonably polite question about it, and got two automated replies.
This also applies to Stationary background. The CSS works fine in Mozilla, they
just don't support it.
Switching to tech evangelism.
This was the response I got from Yahoo:
Please note: Stationery currently is available only to PC users with
IE
5 or higher. Sorry, we don't have a version of the "Color and
Graphics"
version yet for Netscape.
Component: Browser-General → US General
OS: Windows 2000 → All
Product: Browser → Tech Evangelism
Version: Trunk → unspecified
Doesn't seem to be doing anything Mozilla *couldn't* do, so I'd put this down
to laziness on someone at Yahoo's part - we need to show there are enough
Netscape/Mozilla users around to make it worth their while to make
cross-browser.

Good luck. I've offered to help them out several times without a response.

Attention Attention!!!

This is for Mozilla team or developers,

Have you EVER contact Yahoo folks to sort this out? No? PLEASE do that. If
yes, what was the problem? Please share with us.

Thanks!

You're welcome to contact yahoo, probably not on behalf of mozilla org, but on
behalf of end user community involved in development and bugzilla work...

same problem exists when browsing the internet shopping site
http://www.quixtar.com . Some images that are responsive and functional are not
displayed either using Mozilla as the default or making use of the Agent
Switcher to switch to IE mode.

FYI, there is an extension "eWebMail - Color and Graphics" at

Forgive me if this is bug spam, but is there any reason that this extension
shouldn't be considered for inclusion in FF? Since there is no standard (that I
know of) on how to include a rich text editor in a browser, it makes sense to
provide compatability with as many methods as can be done within reason. Based
on the amount of dublicate bugs filed, seems like an in demand feature.

This works with
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
AKA Firefox 1.5RC3
It didn't before?

Make sure
Mode: Compose messages as color and graphics is on and test with Firefox 1.5RC3?
Not sure about other builds.

Yahoo seems to have added colour/graphics capability sometime between November 8 and November 11,2005. It works with Firefox 1.0.7 as well as Firefox 1.5 RC2.
Ok, looks fixed. Thanks Yahoo! and Nate!

This does not seem to be fixed for SeaMonkey.

I have tried SeaMonkey 1.5a, 2051111 and SM 1.9a1, 20051104.

Looks like they're doing a browser check, but they're ignoring SM.

I changed (added) the SM user agent string using;

user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051006 Firefox/1.4.1");

opened a new Compose window, & the new buttons were then there.
Yahoo givith and Yahoo taketh away. As of today, November 21,2005, the colour and graphics toolbar is once more absent from Yahoo Mail. Who knows what the situation will be like tomorrow!
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

Firefox 1.5RC3

I still see it...This is probably a problem with Firefox.
works for me in ff 1.5rc3/winxp still. if you have problems, check that you aren't blocking images, etc, try safe mode to check if an extension is horking you _and report what build, and platform you are using_ when commenting.

REPLY: The problem still exists as of November 22, 2005.
1. I checked the Yahoo image blocking, and it is definitely turned off.
2. The problem still exists in safe mode.
3. I am using Firefox 1.5 RC2 . The platform is Windows 98 SE .

Hmm, any reason not to have updated to RC3? Does that fix the problem if you update?

Windows 98... its possible there is a Firefox/Win98 bug lurking here or perhaps they are detecting Win98 for some reason. If you can still reproduce this after updating to RC3, what happens if you spoof your user agent to be from WinXP?

REPLY: I have just updated to Firefox 1.5 RC3 , and the problem still persists.
Exactly how do I "spoof your user agent to be from WinXP"?

http://chrispederick.com/work/useragentswitcher/ should be able to do it.
