Background

For the suggestions that users see in their Awesome Bar results, it is currently possible for removing them from their browser’s history via SHIFT+DEL, but this is not:

  • discoverable
  • clear to the user what it accomplishes
  • capable of providing us with the signal that the user did not want to see a given suggestion

Goals

  • provide users with a discoverable manner to interact with the suggestions that are provided in the Awesome Bar’s results
  • provide a mechanism for user’s to dismiss the suggestions that we provide as well as remove historical items from their history
  • prepare the mechanism for future possible actions that the user may take on specific suggestions
  • build trust with the user and provide them with control over their results
  • provide Mozilla with signals that indicate which suggestions are not helpful to users
