This bug is for tracking 0.9.3 release notes changes and additions.
Summary: o.9.3 Release Notes Tracking → 0.9.3 Release Notes Tracking
New release note items for Mac: Turning on font smoothing in Adobe Type Manager (ATM) can cause Mozilla/Netscape 6 windows to come up blank. Workaround is to turn off the font smoothing option in ATM. (Bugzilla #58104) The WebFree utility can cause Mozilla/Netscape 6 windows to come up blank. Workaround is to remove WebFree and use alternate utilities that provide similiar functionality. (Bugzilla #13982)
whoever adds the item for sdagley's item for bug 13982 should note that there is already one or two notes for webfree. does sdagley's superceed that one?
Marking NEW.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
adding http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87939 It's not a bug per se, it's that we need to document the right behavior so that users don't think it's a bug. sidebar panels and bookmarks will not change when you switch the region via "View" or "Prefs" dialog. The rationale is that they are profile-bound setting and should not be altered once they are copied into the user's profile directory during creation.
Please add bug 90206 to release note.
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86538 should be release noted for MacOSX for 0.9.3 and RTM. Netscape/Mozilla will not run when the application is stored on a UFS partition. The workaround is to move the application folder to an HFS+ partition and it will run correctly.
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71718 should be release-noted for MacOSX for 0.9.3 and rtm If you have a dual-processor G4 running Mac OSX, Mozilla will stall loading all but the simplest webpages. There is no workaround (unless the user knows the complicated steps to disable the 2nd processor). There are no problems with dual- processor G4's running MacOS 9.
From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89500. Note that the behaviour is different on the trunk, compared to the branch: [trunk and branch]: SOCKS proxies only work with http and https. [branch only]: Other protocols will ignore the socks setting, and will use a protocol-specific proxy if one is specified. [trunk only]: Other protocols will send an http style request, so that ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/ is the same as http://ftp.mozilla.org/.
Bug 90206 requested by kmurray@netscape.com: (Windows) You may need to try more then once before Outlook Express address books are imported successfully.
Bug 73031- Renaming a profile does not display change until next time Profile Manager is invoked. (was in earlier release notes)
bug 87619- see the upgrade guide for problems associated with using a profile created in 6.0 or 6.01 that was abandoned. If user continued to use 4.x profile, information in 6.0 or 6.01 profile will appear out of date. Upgrade guide has suggestions and instructions for working through this problem.
We have closed bug 90206 because in order for Outlook to be imported, you MUST have the default mail client set to "Microsoft Outlook" in the MS Internet Explorer. Please add this to the release note. Here is how to do this: 1. Launch Internet Explorer. 2. Goto Tools | Internet Options to launch the Internet Options dialog. 3. Click on Programs tab and select "Microsoft Outlook" as the default E-mail client. 4. Hit OK and exit Explorer.
the following needs a release note for MacOS9 (not macosx): Scroll wheel support for Kensington input devices requires Kensington MouseWorks 5.7 or higher. Version 5.7 is not yet shipping as of this writing; please check the Kensington website at http://www.kensington.com/support/sup_1170.html#mice for updates.
Bug# 91007: Can't import Outlook Mail The workaround is to open Internet Explorer and set Outlook as the default Mail client. This allows Outlook Mail (and Address Book) to be imported into Netscape/Mozilla Mail. A. Here are the steps to make Outlook the default mail client as stated in bug# 90206: 1. Launch Internet Explorer. 2. Go to Tools | Internet Options to launch the Internet Options dialog. 3. Click on Programs tab and select "Microsoft Outlook" as the default E-mail client. 4. Hit OK and exit Explorer. B. To import Outlook Mail into Netscape Mail: 5. Open Netscape Mail - If the Account Wizard opens you can configure for an account or Cancel out of the Wizard. 6. select File|Import 7. select the Mail radio button, Next button 8. select Outlook, Next button 9. When successful then select the Finish button
Just wanted to let you all know that this bug should be only for bugs that affect the 0.9.3 trunk and 0.9.2 RTM branch. If you have a bug that affects 0.9.3 only, include it here: Bug 91390
Summary: 0.9.3 Release Notes Tracking → 0.9.3 and 0.9.2 RTM Branch Release Notes Tracking (0.9.3 only bugs go in 91390)
This MUST go in the relnotes. If for some reason java doesn't work, make sure the following is true: on Win32: Copy the NPOJI600.DLL from C:\JDK*\jre\bin to <MOZILLA_BIN>\plugins. on Unix: Make a soft link from <MOZILLA_BIN>/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so to /usr/java/j*/jre/plugins/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so
You might also want to note in the relnotes that MOZILLA_BIN directory is /usr/lib/mozilla, not /usr/lib/netscape - if you do an about:plugins, many of them show up as in /usr/lib/netscape - because that's where the original file is, and it's linked over.
Important Java issue (from bug 80493): Redhat users who have problems with Java hanging should try setting the environment variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to "2.2.5".
Message Filters: bug 30081 (Filter execution doesn't stop - different from 4.x): If you have multiple filters configured for a mail account, incoming messages will continue to be evaluated against each filter (in the order listed in the Message Filters dialog) until a filter action of Move to Folder or Delete is executed. This differs from Communicator 4.x where any filter action would stop further filtering on a message.
bug 91342: For this release, Send Page will be disabled for pages containing post data which cannot be cached.
To edburns@acm.org: Do you have a bug number for the information about you listed previously? To pinkerton@netscape.com Do you have a bug number for the information about Kensington you listed previously?
Please add these bugs to the release note: bug 90378: In Address Book, using "Select All" and "Delete" more than 500 cards may crash application. bug 82991: Copying a large number of addresses between address books may cause crash.
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82720 Sometimes a webpage will load incomplete. Shift-Reload corrects this problem.
Release note for bug 84896 If you receive the message 'The program must close to allow a previous installation to complete' when launching, it means that file cleanup after an additional installation has not completed. ( for instance, when downloading and installing like Java 2 or Winamp) Suggested workarounds: 1. In most cases, waiting a few additional seconds after the program exits will allow the cleanup process to complete and allow you to launch 2. Occasionally the installation process is waiting for another program to release a file the cleanup process needs. You may need to shut down other programs or reboot the computer to allow the installation process to complete. 3. In rare cases, a file cannot be cleaned up correctly, so rename the file xpicleanup.dat file and retry the launch. ** Warning-Do not remove this file -its presence may indicate an incomplete install so something somewhere isn't what it should be.
bug 11709 Pref "browser.screen_resolution" is ignored bug 24227 implement browser.screen_resolution pref on Windows bug 69205 pref browser.display.screen_resolution does nothing bug 89078 browser.display.screen_resolution ignored (again) on Linux The "Display Resolution" setting (in the "Fonts" panel of the "Appearance" section of the preferences dialog box) does not work as the value given by the operating system overrides it. bug 78021 Copy Link Location broken for image maps The "Copy Link Location" context menu item does not work for links inside image maps. bug 89065 text-decoration:blink not working The 'blink' value of 'text-decoration' is now ignored (the proprietary <blink> element no longer works for the same reason). This may be changed back in future versions of Netscape or Mozilla.
Bug# 91507: Double click onto a message and it appears in a Stand Alone message window. In a Stand Alone message window, the context menus for a link do nothing. For instance Open Link in New Window,Copy Link Location, Save Link As..., and Bookmark this Link will fail. Workaround: From the 3pane window select a message in the thread pane, view its contents in the Message pane. Right click onto the link in the Message pane and the context menu items work (i.e. Open Link in New Window).
Reguarding Ed Burn's comment, on Windows, you can also set this pref in all.js: pref("plugin.do_JRE_Plugin_Scan",true); and Mozilla will try to fetch Java from where it's installed by looking in the Registry without the user needing to copy any DLL's. See bug 78150. Also, my picks.... On Mac, we now scan for plugins in the System's "Internet Plugins Folder" first. See bug 78751. Pages may flicker with plugins on Mac. See bug 62891. On OS X there is no "Default Downloader Plugin" (aka. the Default Plugin) and Java is not working yet. See bug 88870. Plugins don't print yet. See bug 27478 Windowless plugins don't get some events. See bug 90574. On Linux there may be problems with ESD Audio and Flash. See bug 85772 and 58339. Flash may crash with exported X display. See bug 58937. For Developers: Scripting 4.x plugins through methods in .CLASS files will not be supported. Plugin vendors need upgrade to XPConnect with either the new plugin API *OR* see bugzilla bug 73874 for a 4.x API workaround.
IMAP Interoperability bug: Cyrus IMAP bug 91398: "Permission denied" alert displays when sending msg from Cyrus. When sending msgs from Cyrus IMAP mail account, you will get "The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Permission denied". Workaround will be: need to redefine the special folder (sent, draft, template) under the Inbox folder, then it will work without these alerts.
IMAP "Mark it as Deleted" mode bug 69151: Shouldn't delete marked messages immediately when FIRST launch to mail with "Mark as deleted" mode. This impacting: 1)Users won't see those marked as deleted msgs from 6.1 when migrating this IMAP mode from 4.7 to 6.1. 2)Users won't be able to restore those "marked as deleted" msgs back unless they "Undo" deleting right away. Work around: Select "Undo" after the deleting right away will restore those "marked as deleted" msgs back.
bug 89198: LDAP autocomplete item display name is not properly quoted; bounced mail results bug 84566: default minStringLength setting of 0 can trigger hang on NT Both bugs have workarounds that involve hand-editing prefs.js.
Please add the following bugs to the release notes: Bug 85227: Biff works only on the first account and does not work for any other accounts in the same profile. Work around: select each account's inbox once and click on Get message. Bug 80296: 'Get all new messages' checks for the default or the selected account only with or without password saved. Workaround: select each account's inbox and click on get message the first time for that session Get all new messages should work. Bug 74591: This bug is with pop accounts. Very remotely Mail messages get in a state when selecting a message in thread pane and deleting by toolbar button, menu item etc. does nothing. Workaround: Switching folders, switching accounts, Closing the application and restarting makes delete work again Bug 91928: Drag and drop does not work. Variety of reports with draggging and dropping a message does nothing more so on mac. Workaround: Use context menus or file menu items to move the message.
Please do not include bug 91928 in the release notes since it has been already resolved. Thanks.
The following bugs are resolved and verified. Please remove them from the release note: bug 22095 bug 32035 bug 41590 Thanks.
The bug number from Akkana's post: Important Java issue (from bug 80493): Redhat users who have problems with Java hanging should try setting the environment variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to "2.2.5". should be bug 79918 not bug 80493
bug 91000 Crash invoking spell check on Mac OSX bug 78948 Printing crashes with Linux RedHat 6.2
Bug 67027: Uninstall does not remove program files from the program folder when certain non-ascii chars are used in the folder name. The program does get removed from the Start Menu and the Add/Remove Programs list in Control Panel.
Bug 91721: Language/Region Packs downloaded in 6.0x appear in View menu after upgrade but do not function. A user that wants to continue to use locale packs that were downloaded in 6.0x should keep 6.0x by installing 6.1 in a new folder. The old content packs will not appear in the 6.1 View menu, but will still be available for use in 6.0x. Any profile set to a non-default locale in 6.0x will revert to the default locale in 6.1. To use locale packs in 6.1, it is necessary to download new locale packs via the View menu (View>Set Language/Region>Download More) or via Preferences (Edit>Preferences, expand Appearance category, select Content Packs panel, then click Download More on lower-right).
Bugscape http://bugscape.netscape.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7903 Summary = Cannot customize stocks tab from "Tabs in sidebar" window. Problem = when stocks tab is re-added from Favorites Folder, you can't click on Customize Sidebar button, it is dimmed Workaround = Click OK/cancel and come back in that Customize Sidebar window and then click on the Stocks tab, now you can click on Customize Sidebar button. This only affects users of old profile who deleted their original stocks tab and then re-added it. New profile users won't be affected and shouldn't experience this problem.
plugins : bug 92188: Users will see the 'default plugin dialog' on mac while viewing the flash animation on this page even they have the flash plugin installed. Workaround is to just dismiss the dialog by clicking CANCEL inside the window. bug 75456 : Users will see the browser context menu pop up after dismissing a plugins context menu on mac. Workaround to remove the unwanted browser context menu is to click inside the plugin area with the mouse once.
The following info can be deleted from http://home.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/ns61/relnotes/pv61.html#psm "Password Manager's Encrypt Sensitive Information command does not work properly and may cause a freeze. To avoid this problem, change your Personal Security Password before choosing the Encrypt Sensitive Information command. 1.Open the Tasks menu and choose Privacy and Security; then choose Password Manager and Change Personal Security Password. 2.Fill in requested information and click OK. Note: If the Encrypt Sensitive Information menu item is grayed out, try choosing Obscure Sensitive Information first." ALSO: "Netscape supports SSL 3.0 and TLS, so if you enable TLS (it is disabled by default), you can not visit Web sites on servers that implement a portion of the SSL 3.0 specification incorrectly."
You can also delete this from http://home.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/ns61/relnotes/pv61.html#psm "Mac OS: Encrypting stored data can cause Netscape to freeze. Linux: A secure (closed) lock icon becomes a non-secure (open) lock icon after you click it."
Workaround for bug 59497 should be added to release notes: After editing a page in Composer, the "Browse" button (or "File | Browse Page" command) can be used to load the file into the Browser. Once you have a Browser window with a page, using "Browse" again doesn't load the new changes (instead, the window becomes blank.) Workaround: After editing some more, if you want to view the new changes in Browser, first save the Composer file, go to the Browser window loaded before, and click on the "Reload" button (or use "View | Reload" menu command).
Bug 78948 and Bug 92344 You may experience print failures, or a crash on RedHat linux if you try to print to a printer, but do not have a printer named lp configured. There are two ways to work around this. 1) Configure the printer named lp (which is by default the printer name assigned on Redhat Linux). 2) Use a printer that is configured, e.g., lp0, by changing the print command in the print dialog so that it reads lpr -P lp0 (replace lp0 with the name of your printer). To see the list of configured printers, you can log in as root and use the following command: 'lpc status'. Alternately, you can use the RedHat 'printtool' application to graphically view and configure the printers on your system.
This release note wording should cover bug 92291 and bug 88120. Under rare circumstances, Netscape 6.1 may crash if certain security warnings are turned on. These preferences are found under Edit, Preferences, Privacy and Security, SSL. Turning off the "Entering a site that supports encryption" and "Entering a site that uses low-grade encryption" warnings ahead of time is a workaround to preventing a crash.
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64768 Bookmarks cannot be rearranged if you have sorted them. To rearrange them, select Unsorted from the View menu, or click the Name column header until the arrow disappears.
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86989 Unable to print out Japanese characters from Win98-J with HP Laser Jet driver (Japanese version). As a workaround, the user can install the driver that comes with the Japanese Windows 98 installation CD and use that with NS 6.1.
Re: Address Book Sync for webmail For each profile, you are allowed to sync the webmail address book of the same account you are currently logging on. Steps 1. Create a new profile 2. Start Netscape 6 3. Bring up Activation window and enter a Screen Name, eg gtest01 and password and click on OK. 4. Bring up Address Book, click on the sync button, enter: gtest01 and password in the Sync dialog.
XPInstall http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91219 Issue: Windows users may experience an error dialog hidden behind the startup splash screen after restarting the browser after installing from xpi(s) using third party installers. Workaround: Click on error dialog icon from Windows Taskbar to make dialog visible in front of startup splash screen in order to dismiss. This dialog states "The program must close to allow a previous installation attempt to complete. Please restart."
several printing bugs: Bugs 79834, 66804, 64447, 86921, 87374, 83683 printing web pages may not printout all pages due to table pageination problems. Bug 84149 problems printing pages with frames - not all pages printed Bug 12037 Transparent backgrounds are printed as black. Bug 90732 table doesn't get printed out when it is between pages or more than one page. Bug 24847 Cannot print landscape mode on Mac and Linux Bug 84223 Printing cut off at the right end
Sujay, do those bugs have workarounds? I'm not sure I see the point of including them (and not the 13,000 other bugs) in the release notes if they don't.
well those bugs are known problems. I just thought I'd put these in so we don't get several bugs filed against these issues.
Bug 92659 covers a really nasty crasher when printing newsgroup messages. No workaround known.
Bug 70517: Renamed/Deleted IMAP non-ASCII folders show up as utf-7 strings Restart browser will make the folders shown correctly.
A developer release note: with 0.9.2 we made dynamic script evaluation work (new SCRIPT elements attached to a document via the DOM result in script evaluation - bug 18843). The caveat to this improvement is that subsequent modification of a SCRIPT element does not retrigger evaluation - bug 88318.

Plugins: problems with some older versions of MS Media Player. Newer version is available for Win98 and W2K but not for NT40 or Win95. See bug 66015.
Also in addition to that last comment, to get Windows Media Player 7.x, you may need to manually copy "npdsplay.dll" to your plugins directory.
Address Book sync release note should go to bugscape bug 4915 release note. Please remove my comments dated 2001-07-26 18:24 thanks.

Bug 92637 in News, "Hang / crash when double clicking on jpg attachments in news".
Bug 90699, bug 40480: In the Message Filters' Rules dialog some users may not be able to enter or access more than 3 criteria lines. If you encounter this problem switch to the Classic theme. The problem has been generally addressed but still hits some systems and has been reported only in the Modern theme.
Doh, I messed up. Regarding bug 90699/40480 -- the release note should be in Bugscape/Commercial RTM only as a different/more complete fix was applied in the trunk, so problem shouldn't likely affect mozilla 0.9.3. Sorry for the confusion.
Plugins: If you can not override the loading of PNG images by the Quicktime plugin, update to Quicktime 5.0.2 and see bug 69719.
bug 89534 Mozilla 0.9.2 install causes Forte Agent 1.8/32.548 to crash: Workaround posted by davelewis.pdx@verizon.net I found the following sequence allowed Agent to run properly: 1. Clean install of Win2k 2. Start the install Mozilla 0.9.2 3. When the dialog box that says "Do you want to set up windows that that it will..." I select "No". Selecting "Yes" allowed Agent to run only once. Startup crashes occurred afterward. Selecting "No" allowed Agent to run properly.
Reviewed and added approved bugs to release notes up until this point. Some bugs not yet added (listed above) include: bug 84566 bug 74591 bug 89534
The release notes for the Mac version need to list QuickTime as a system requirement. The dependancy on Quicktime is supposed to be removed eventually (see bug 59059), but this has been futured for the time being. Right now if someone tries to run the Mozilla installer (or Mozilla itself I believe) without Quicktime installed, it fails with an error message (see related bug 89720).
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76433 We need to document the fact that the administrator/user needs to copy the printer vendor's file to: $INSTALL/res/unixpsfonts.properties
