This is a meta bug for tracking the Certainly Something & Firefox Outreachy program, as you can find here:
https://www.outreachy.org/may-2019-august-2019-outreachy-internships/communities/mozilla/#implement-a-new-certificate-viewer-for-firefox

Bugs can also be found in the Certainly Something repository, as found here:
https://github.com/april/certainly-something/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3A%22good+first+issue%22

Hi, can I start working on all these bugs. I am outreachy applicant.

Hey @April, as I see all these bugs are assigned to someone, and someone has already asked for the good first bugs in Certainly Something repository, Can you assign me a bug? I have already fixed a few bugs on firefox and now I am trying to build certainly something.
For example, I've solved this Bug as assigned by johannh.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1515943

You should be able to speak up on a bug and volunteer for it. I'm working on trying to find new bugs to fix so that everyone has an opportunity.

Hi @April, my name is Anh Pham and I'm ready to tackle on good-first-issue bugs :) patiently waiting for you to find one and I will also try to be more familiar with the code base and hopefully find one myself too! I think the problem for me right now is that I don't really have much knowledge about HTTPS Certificate in order to actually know what elements are supposed to be in one and such. Could you recommend me some documentations on HTTPS certificate or related to read on, if necessary? Thanks so much in advance!

I would probably say that if you don't have much familiarity with C++, JavaScript and HTTPS/TLS, that this probably isn't the best first project for you.

If you are interested in learning about HTTPS, there are some great books on it, such as Crypto 101:
https://www.crypto101.io/

Wikipedia also has some great resources.

Sorry for jumping out of nowhere. I am just curious as in the required skills section for this project, the skills mentioned are HTML/CSS/Javascript, Web Security/PKI, React. I have good knowledge of HTML/CSS/Javascript. The description says that the applicant should have read about the other two skills. I know react and I'm reading about web security these days. I am not comfortable with C++. Is this project a good fit for me?

I am currently working on a good first bug for this project.

Hi April
All the bugs specified above are already assigned to someone. Please let me know if you have a bug that I can work on. :)

I have successfully linked the HTML/CSS/JS pages in Firefox about pages. This will serve as the basis for the larger project. Can I submit this as a contribution

Hi April, I wanted to work on bugs. So I had a question to ask that if we can go for issues other the good-first issues in this project.

@April, Hi, I am Marshall, a participant for the current Outreachy program.I want to work on a good first bug for this project for a start but it seems most of the issues i can work on for a start has been assigned and worked on by others.
I have good knowledge of HTML/CSS/Javascript and beginner in React. Can you find an issue fit for me to fix?

I am in the same boat as Marshall. Any suggestions or directions for bugs to fix are welcomed. Thank you!

Hi April,

I am too an outreachy applicant and looking forward to contributing to this project.
I have opened an issue in the project- https://github.com/april/certainly-something/issues/33
Let me know if I could work on it if no other changes are required in the bug.
Thanks

Hi April, Johann , been trying to contact you on IRC, no replys. I am ekikoh, a participant for the current outreachy program.
I've been monitoring this thread for sometime now, looking to contribute, but it seems all of the issues have been taken up by other cool fellows.
Is there a chance I could make contributions to other mozilla products and it would still count as an outreachy contribution? cause there are many very cool mozilla products I found and would love to contribute to.

I anticipate your reply.
Thanks.

Sure, if you can find bugs inside Firefox, especially ones already in Bugzilla, that would be great.

Please let me know about the commits I can make regarding the about:certificate page. I have linked the attachments above showcasing the work done so far.

Can https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443124 be a good-first-bug for this project?
If yes, I want to work on it.

Hi April,

I'm an Outreachy applicant that is looking to contribute to this project. I have an open issue https://github.com/april/certainly-something/issues/38 and I was wondering if you could check to see if it's a valid bug. If so, can you please assign it to me. Thank you.

Hi April,

I am an Outreachy applicant. I am very excited to contribute to the project. My expertise are in HTML/CSS/Javascript. Can you please find a bug for me ?

Hey everyone. As you've certainly noticed, we have been contacted by an extremely large number of applicants and will not be able to mentor more contributors than we currently do. Thus, if you haven't already been in touch with one of us and have been assigned to a bug, we will not be able to assist you in finding a starter bug or troubleshooting your issues. We will close applications on the Outreachy website soon, too.

I would like to encourage everyone to apply to other Outreachy projects and I'm really sorry for having to reject so many talented young developers.

Hi Johann. Too bad that those of us who were late to the party can't contribute to this awesome project. Just wondering if Mozilla will open a new project on Outreachy or not? Thank you !

Hi April & Johann.

I started working on this bug, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1484071, before this tracking thread was set up. This was from the recommended good-first-bugs for Firefox front end, linked in the original Outreachy description. Its complete. Just leaving it here for tracking purposes (i didn't see it listed above) so it doesn't get lost!

Thanks for your hard work and patience! I know there are a lot of us. :)

Hi April, This is ZEE. like some of us has mentioned about having knowledge in certain languages. I got the approval mail yesterday and everything here looks quite overwhelming to me as i have knowledge in only HTML5 and CSS3. can you pls confirm projects are closed or if there are any projects particularly for my knowledge.

Summary: Certainly Something → Outreachy Work for Certainly Something WebExtension

Hello April and Johann,
I am an Outreachy applicant. I have just received my initial application approval today. I am familiar with C++ and HTML/CSS/Javascript. Can I still apply to this project if I find a bug to fix ?
Thank you

Hello,
I was assigned a bug before this tracking thread was set up. The mentors did not reply on time so I ended up spending a lot of time on it and then they told me its a wont fix bug. So Johann assigned me this bug - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1537535. I have completed it. I hope you will consider my contribution since I have been working since day 1 for this project.

Closing this as the application phase has ended :)
